DetailsA spectacular companion piece or standalone collectible for rare book collectors and art enthusiasts!
This is an authentic, vintage Japanese picture book written and illustrated by the highly respected author and master printmaker, Makoto Kawabata (川端 誠).
Part of his celebrated, beautifully observed botanical children's book universe, this rare copy features an incredible, one-of-a-kind treasure on the inside cover page.Instead of a generic signature, the artist custom-crafted a full-page original ink character illustration, hand-sketched and personally autographed ("誠 KAWA").
Because each drawing he did during book signings was uniquely improvised, this features an entirely distinct character layout separate from his other works—making it a true standalone work of art.
Item Details:
Artist/Author: Makoto Kawabata (川端 誠)
Signatures: Authentic autograph hand-signed in Kanji and English ("誠 KAWA") by the artist.
Original Artwork: Features a completely unique, hand-drawn character ink sketch.
Inscription Note: Includes a polite, personalized Japanese dedication on the right side ("Suzuki Madoka-sama").
Publisher: BL Publishing (Japan)Publication
Era: 1990s Vintage
Condition:
The inner artwork page and crisp ink lines are beautifully preserved and remain in excellent condition. Just like its companion book, the outer dust jacket shows some typical vintage shelf wear from storage over the decades, which successfully protected the actual book inside—leaving the inner hardcover, bindings, and story pages tight, clean, and in really good condition.
Collector's Offer: I currently have another rare, hand-signed and illustrated book from this exact Makoto Kawabata cactus series available in my shop! If you are interested in purchasing both as a matching pair of original artist drawings, please send me a direct message before purchasing so I can bundle them together for you at a discount. -
